Off the Freeway and past the Airport Overlook is where you will find the Victorian Villa Bed & Breakfast Inn on Lake Wylie . The Innkeeper , Chandler "Chan"
Thompson, was so enthusiastic about his special inn that I had to see what all the fuss, or rather his fuss, was about. After passing the Berryhill Elementary School, you are immediately met with a breathtaking glimpse
of the lake that sets the tone for your visit. Five houses down is the inn. The inn is a picturesque house with a great deal of history. We were greeted at the door by "Lizzie", an active little dog who probably would
have conducted the tour if she could speak.
The home is beautiful and the result of 25 years of meticulous work and building by the innkeeper. Each part of the home, from the front doors that were a part of the old Elizabeth
House here in Charlotte, to the side lights from the Old Thomas Cadillac building and the staircase railing from the Old City National Building, is as much historical as functional.
Most remarkable is the roof and the ornaments
that adorn the roof, taken from the former location of the First Baptist Church, an African-American church once on South Church Street in uptown Charlotte.
The inn features also stained glass windows and other details from
around the world (He not only brings back these details but guests from around the world as well).
The house is completely decorated with a 25-year-old collection of antiques. I am impressed by the well-traveled host's attention
to detail. The inn has two rooms and two suites available to guests. The two rooms are cozy. However, the suites are something to consider.
The Juliet Room, on the lower level, is a spacious 600 square feet with a
separate sitting room and private bath.
